The first installment of AFM Community Austin: Saturday Sessions was held at 11am on Saturday, February 23rd 2019 in the third floor meeting hall of the IBEW building in Southeast Austin. The Session began with brief networking and conversation among the attendees over coffee and doughnuts. Both union members and non-members registered for the event ahead of time using the provided online form. Aaron Lack began the program by giving attendees an opportunity to give a brief, twenty second announcement or shout-out about an upcoming project or performance. The program continued with a reading of the Mission Statement of The American Federation of Musicians followed by a brief introduction of percussionist, professor, and entrepreneur, Tony Edwards. (In the spirit of full disclosure, a statement was made explaining that Mr. Edward’s company, Artistry Of Music, is a sponsor of the union newsletter of AFM Local 433 and that the company offers a 20% discount to union members on its services.)
Tony Edward’s presentation included helpful descriptions of various time consuming tasks that can be automated through a musician’s website and how his company has streamlined these functions for the music industry. A brief history of Edward’s involvement with the music, education, and internet businesses was also given leading to a productive question and answer segment. Additional socializing and discussion extended the Session to approximately 1pm.
Stay tuned to this newsletter, our local’s facebook feed, and your email for information on the next Saturday Session!
