Mr. Young began his pianistic journey when he was five, playing his first musical
production when he was twelve, averaging a show a year since that time. During his
tenure as pianist at The Country Dinner Playhouse in Austin, he was fortunate to work
alongside stars of vaudeville, cinema, and stage including Mickey Rooney, Myrna Loy,
and Ann Miller. When that theatre closed he finished his B. A. in music and became
UT's coach/accompanist for Leon Danielian, former director of the American Ballet
Theatre, until his death. He then began a twenty-year run as the nightly piano player at
Little Italy restaurant and has played in numerous dance bands around Central Texas.
Musical theatre has been a primary focus for Mr. Young, and he has played and directed
hundreds of productions during his life. Highlights of his career include performing in
Carnegie Hall with the Texas Suzuki Tour Group, and touring Europe with the Young American
Musicians Abroad.
