The Austin Symphony Adopts IMA Side-Letter
Posted Date: March 28 2020
Due to the ongoing COVID-19 health crisis facing our community and nation, the Austin Symphony Orchestra has been forced to cancel all performances scheduled for the month of April. Thanks to the quick thinking of the national office of the AFM, we were able to ensure a way for the musicians to be paid while at the same time providing the symphony patrons a way to enjoy the artistry of the Austin Symphony Orchestra from the safety of their homes. Last week in the face of this crisis, the ASO adopted the newly drafted side-letter to the Integrated Media Agreement. This agreement allows the symphony to broadcast or stream new or archived symphony performances in place of a cancelled performance, while at the same time guaranteeing that no musician will see an interruption in pay. This is great news for all union musicians! Visit the symphony’s website or social media pages to discover an archived symphony performance or to see what the musicians have been up to while they are stuck at home. http://www.austinsymphony.org/events/the-symphony-rewind/
